Annual hedge maintenance
Regular maintenance of your cedar hedge (or any other type of hedge) is not just about appearance. It is essential to maintain a clean shape and ensure healthy growth.
With each trimming, we typically remove between one-third and one-half of new growth.
We restore a clean and well-structured shape while preserving enough vegetation to promote denser development.
We also remove dead, broken, or dry (orange) branches, which helps improve the overall health of your hedge.
To keep your hedge properly shaped, we recommend a conical form (narrower at the top and wider at the base).
This shape allows the lower branches to receive better sunlight, promoting even growth throughout the hedge.
We also recommend a rounded top to prevent snow from accumulating on the surface, which could bend or damage the structure.
If desired, we can apply fertilizer after trimming to stimulate the growth of your cedars.
During the first years after planting, we mainly trim the sides while keeping a wider base. This allows the hedge to grow taller while strengthening its structure for more solid development over time.
